"Am", "is" and "are" are cases of the verb "to be", one of the most common verbs in the English language.

Verbs are words that tell us what people or things are "doing" or "being". They will be taught to you thoroughly in Lessons 21 to 28.

Note that "You are" is the same for both a single person and a group of people.

Note also that the cases of more than one male (he), more than one female (she) and more than one neuter (it), all become "they".
