Vocabulary is a list of all words in a language. In this course you will learn a vocabulary of about 20,000 words.

Grammar is a set of rules for using vocabulary correctly, to make phrases, sentences and paragraphs. Grammar divides words into groups called:

This course will not introduce complicated grammar, just some basic rules that help you to speak English better.

A phrase is a group of one or more words, for example "I travelled". It expresses an idea but does not normally form a complete sentence.

A sentence is one or more phrases, for example: "I travelled to the beach on a bus". It is a set of words, expressing an idea, that is complete in itself.

A paragraph is one or more sentences, beginning on a new line, usually expressing similar ideas.

Idioms are phrases that that cannot necessarily be understood by looking at their separate words. There are many idioms in English and this course will teach you a large number of them! You have seen some already, in Lesson 9 and Lesson 10.
