Lesson 161: Double Negatives

Double negatives in English grammar use two negative elements in the same clause, to make a positive. 英语语法中的双重否定在同一个子句中使用两个否定元素来构成肯定。 Most double negatives are poor English, also called "informal English". 大多数双重否定都是蹩脚英语，也称为“非正式英语”。Here are some examples, followed by better ways to say or write them in English: 以下是一些示例，以及用英语说或写它们的更好方法：

"I haven't got no time for that." -> "I have no time for that". “我没有时间。” ->“我没有时间”。 "She doesn't want no help from nobody." -> "She doesn't want help from anybody". “她不需要任何人的帮助。” ->“她不需要任何人的帮助”。 "I can't find my keys nowhere." -> I can't find my keys anywhere." “我到处都找不到我的钥匙。” -> 我到处都找不到我的钥匙。” "He didn't say nothing about the party." -> "He didn't say anything about the party." “他没有说任何关于聚会的事。” -> “他没有说任何关于聚会的事情。”

Double-negatives do have a use, meaning something slightly different from what the sentence would mean without the negatives. 双重否定确实有用，其含义与没有否定的句子的含义略有不同。You use the word "not", then the prefix "un-" before an adjective. 您在形容词前使用“not”一词，然后使用前缀“un-”。 Here are some examples: 这里有些例子： It's not uncommon to see a kangaroo on the outskirts of Melbourne. 在墨尔本郊区看到袋鼠并不罕见。 It’s not unheard of for gold to be discovered in the Eildon area. 在艾尔登地区发现金矿并非闻所未闻。 The author's third novel isn't perfect, but it's not an unworthy piece of writing. 作者的第三部小说并不完美，但也不是一部没有价值的作品。 It's not unusual for Launceston Airport in Tasmania to be closed by fog. 塔斯马尼亚的朗塞斯顿机场因大雾而关闭并不罕见。

The meanings of these sentences are subtly different from the meanings using just positives. 这些句子的含义与仅使用肯定句的含义略有不同。 For example, if you write "It's common to see a kangaroo on the outskirts of Melbourne", this makes it seem that kangaroos are often seen. 例如，如果您写“在墨尔本郊区经常能看到袋鼠。”，这会让人觉得袋鼠经常出现。 However, "not uncommon" means "not often" or "much less often" rather than "often". 然而，“并不少见”的意思是“不经常”或“少得多”，而不是“经常”。
