Lesson 49: Weather Idioms

"Every cloud has a silver lining" = There is normally something good even in a bad situation. “每一朵云都有一线希望”=即使在糟糕的情况下，通常情况也会很好。 "It's a breeze!" = it is easy to do. “这很轻松！” 这很容易做到。 "To look as black as thunder" = To look really angry. “看起来像雷声一样黑”=看起来真的很生气。 "To break the ice" = to do something to relax someone in a social setting. “打破僵局”=做一些让社交场合放松的人。

"The calm before the storm" = a peaceful period before a time of great activity or confusion. “暴风雨前的平静”=在一个充满活力或混乱的时期之前的一个和平时期。 "Come rain or shine" = to be dependable, no matter what the weather is like. 无论天气如何，“风雨无阻”都是可靠的。 "Fair-weather friend" = a person who is your friend only during good times. “天气好的朋友”=只有在好的时候才是你朋友的人。 "To get wind of" = to learn about something that is supposed to be secret. “得到风”=了解应该保密的事情。

"To have your head in the clouds" = To have ideas that are not sensible or practical. “让你的头脑在云端”=拥有不合理或实际的想法。 "It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good" = Even a bad event benefits somebody. “这是一场恶风，任何人都没有任何好处。”即使是一个糟糕的事件也会让一些人受益。 "An Indian summer" = A period of warm weather which sometimes happens, unexpectedly, in autumn. “一个印度夏天”=一个温暖的天气，有时会在秋天意外地发生。 "It never rains but it pours" = when things start going wrong, they go very wrong. “它永远不会下雨，但它倒了”=当事情开始出错时，它们就会出错。

"On cloud nine" = to be extremely happy. “在云九”=非常高兴。 "To put on ice" = to postpone (to leave some task to do until some time in the future). “放冰”=推迟（将某些任务留到将来的某个时间）。 "Red sky at night, shepherd's delight. Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning" = If the sky is red at sunset, the weather should be nice the next day. If the sky is red at sunrise, the weather will be bad. “晚上红色的天空，牧羊人的喜悦。早上的红色天空，牧羊人的警告”=如果日落时天空红，第二天天气应该不错。 如果日出时天空是红色，天气会很糟糕。 "A ray of hope" = a chance that something good will happen. “一线希望”=一件好事将会发生的机会。

"To be as right as rain" = to feel well and healthy. “像雨一样正确”=感觉良好和健康。 "It's raining cats and dogs!" = It's raining very heavily. “天下着倾盆大雨！” 这下雨非常严重。 "Save for a rainy day" = to save money for some future day when it will be urgently needed. “节省下雨天”=为了将来需要的时候省钱。 "To be snowed under" = to have too much to do. “要下雪了”=要做太多事情。

"To steal someone's thunder" = to take attention away from them. “窃取别人的雷声”=把注意力从他们身上移开。 "To throw caution to the wind" = to act in an irresponsible, crazy way. “谨慎对待风”=以不负责任，疯狂的方式行事。 "A storm in a teacup" = someone is making a small problem seem to be much bigger. “茶杯中的风暴”=有人正在制造一个小问题似乎要大得多。 "A storm is brewing" = a situation is about to turn bad or dangerous. “风暴正在酝酿”=情况即将变坏或危险。 "Take a rain check" = to not do something now, but promise to do it at a later time. “下雨检查”=现在不做某事，但保证稍后会这样做。 "Under the weather" = not feeling well. “在天气下”=感觉不舒服。
